Crown Prince visits Deir Alla Female Youth Centre

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II on Sunday visited Deir Alla Female Youth Centre in Balqa Governorate and was briefed on the programmes it offers to build the capacities and hone the skills of young women in the area.

During the visit, Crown Prince Al Hussein toured an exhibition of handicraft by the young women benefiting from the centre’s programmes, and attended part of a session on “qualifying young women for the labour market and managing productive projects”.

His Royal Highness stressed the important role of Jordanian women in the development process, stressing the need to expand their economic participation and empower them to start productive projects through capacity-building programmes.

Speaking during the Crown Prince’s visit, Youth Minister Makram Queisi stressed the ministry’s commitment to expanding the Deir Alla centre and institutionalising work on handicraft.

The ministry, he added, will organise an exhibition showcasing handicraft by beneficiaries of youth centres across the Kingdom, to be held at Al Hussein Youth City and include invitees from the private sector to look into marketing opportunities.

Founded in 2006, Deir Alla Female Youth Centre organises national and religious celebrations, cultural programmes, and training courses on social and business entrepreneurship. It also holds workshops on health and human rights.

With 400 young women between the ages of 12 and 30 as members of its general assembly, the centre serves young women in Deir Alla by partnering with public and private organisations in the area.

His Royal Highness is currently on leave from a military course he enrolled in recently with a battalion in the United Kingdom, which continues through the end of this year.
